Dear Families

Well, we’re heading into the last week of October, and after a weekend of rain, it finally feels like fall! This will be a busy and exciting week with Parent-Teacher Conferences and Halloween on Friday.

We’ll kick off Friday morning with our Annual Halloween Parade, a beloved Potter Valley tradition where our elementary students parade through the Junior/Senior High campuses before gathering on the blacktop. This year, we’ll be starting a little earlier than usual — 8:30 a.m. sharp — so be sure to mark your calendars! Please remember that we have many young children on campus, so no scary masks or weapons of any kind. I can’t wait to see all of our students dressed up and ready to celebrate!

The Potter Valley Elementary Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) is made up of parents, teachers, and community members who work together to support our students and school. PTSO funds help provide field trips, classroom supplies, and special activities like Reading Week, Health Week, and Career Day.

Come join us for our Parent Mixer on November 4th to learn more, get involved, and connect with other families who care about making Potter Valley Elementary a great place to learn and grow!

Queridas familias:

¡Nos acercamos a la última semana de octubre y, después de un fin de semana con lluvia, por fin se siente como otoño! Será una semana muy ocupada y emocionante con las Conferencias entre Padres y Maestros y Halloween el viernes.

Comenzaremos la mañana del viernes con nuestro Desfile Anual de Halloween, una querida tradición de Potter Valley en la que nuestros estudiantes de primaria desfilan por los campus de la Secundaria y Preparatoria antes de reunirse en el área del patio. Este año comenzaremos un poco más temprano de lo habitual — a las 8:30 a.m. en punto — ¡así que asegúrense de marcar sus calendarios! Les recordamos que tenemos muchos niños pequeños en el campus, por lo que no se permiten máscaras aterradoras ni ningún tipo de arma. ¡Estoy emocionada de ver a todos nuestros estudiantes disfrazados y listos para celebrar!

La Organización de Padres, Maestros y Estudiantes (PTSO) de Potter Valley Elementary está compuesta por padres, maestros y miembros de la comunidad que trabajan juntos para apoyar a nuestros estudiantes y a nuestra escuela. Los fondos de PTSO ayudan a proporcionar excursiones, materiales para las aulas y actividades especiales como la Semana de la Lectura, la Semana de la Salud y la Semana de las Carreras Profesionales.

Dear Families

Friday was our annual Fall Ag Day at the school farm! Students rotated through hands-on agricultural learning stations that included milking goats, exploring beekeeping, learning about cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats, and tasting different apple varieties and popcorn for a snack. Each class also enjoyed visiting the pumpkin station and taking a group photo to commemorate the day. A huge thank you to Mrs. Moore and her students for organizing and hosting this fantastic event. Their hard work and creativity made it both educational and fun for our youngest learners. We would also like to thank Jason Hallas for generously providing the pumpkins again this year—our students loved picking out their favorites!

This week is Homecoming Week at Potter Valley High School, and our elementary students have been invited to join in the fun by participating in Spirit Week! Each day has a special dress-up theme: Monday is USA/Red, White, and Blue Day, Tuesday is Twin Day, Wednesday is Mom vs. Dad Day, Thursday is Movie Character Day, and Friday is Blue & Gold Day to show our Bearcat pride! The week will conclude with the Homecoming Parade on Friday (time TBD) and the Homecoming Football Game at 6:00 p.m. at the Fred Austin Football Field. We hope to see our students, families, and community members there cheering on our Bearcats!

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held next week! This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and teachers to connect, celebrate student progress, and discuss goals for the rest of the year. To make the most of your conference time, we encourage parents to come prepared with any questions or concerns about their child’s academic progress, behavior, or classroom experience. Bringing notes or specific examples can help guide the conversation and ensure that all of your questions are addressed. Together, we can continue to support every student’s growth and success!

 Queridas familias,

¡El viernes celebramos nuestro Día Anual de Agricultura de Otoño en la granja escolar! Los estudiantes rotaron por diferentes estaciones prácticas de aprendizaje agrícola que incluyeron ordeñar cabras, explorar la apicultura, aprender sobre el ganado vacuno, los cerdos, las ovejas y las cabras, además de probar diferentes variedades de manzanas y palomitas de maíz como refrigerio. Cada clase también disfrutó visitando la estación de calabazas y tomándose una foto grupal para conmemorar el día. Un enorme agradecimiento a la Sra. Moore y a sus estudiantes por organizar y dirigir este evento fantástico. Su arduo trabajo y creatividad hicieron que fuera educativo y divertido para nuestros estudiantes más jóvenes. También queremos agradecer a Jason Hallas por donar generosamente las calabazas nuevamente este año—¡a nuestros estudiantes les encantó escoger sus favoritas!

¡Esta semana es la Semana de Homecoming en la Escuela Secundaria de Potter Valley, y nuestros estudiantes de primaria han sido invitados a unirse a la diversión participando en la Semana de Espíritu Escolar! Cada día tiene un tema especial para vestirse: el lunes es el Día de EE. UU./Rojo, Blanco y Azul, el martes es el Día de los Gemelos, el miércoles es Mamá contra Papá, el jueves es el Día del Personaje de Película, y el viernes es el Día Azul y Dorado para mostrar nuestro orgullo Bearcat. La semana concluirá con el Desfile de Homecoming el viernes (hora por confirmar) y el partido de fútbol de Homecoming a las 6:00 p.m. en el Campo de Fútbol Fred Austin. ¡Esperamos ver a nuestros estudiantes, familias y miembros de la comunidad allí animando a nuestros Bearcats!

¡Las conferencias de padres y maestros se llevarán a cabo la próxima semana! Esta es una excelente oportunidad para que los padres y los maestros se conecten, celebren el progreso de los estudiantes y hablen sobre las metas para el resto del año. Para aprovechar al máximo el tiempo de la conferencia, animamos a los padres a venir preparados con preguntas o inquietudes sobre el progreso académico, el comportamiento o la experiencia escolar de su hijo(a). Dear Families,

Last week, I had the opportunity to take several staff members to the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Conference in Sacramento. PBIS is a schoolwide approach that focuses on teaching and recognizing positive behavior to create a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment for all students. We learned so much and are excited to share what we discovered with the rest of our team and begin implementing new strategies at our school. 

This Friday is Elementary Ag Day! Students will have the opportunity to explore animals and learn about many different aspects of agriculture. Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Church, along with their students, are planning and hosting this wonderful hands-on event for our Preschool through 6th-grade students. We often need extra help to make this day a success, so please watch for more information later in the week if you’re interested in volunteering or attending.

Queridas familias,

La semana pasada tuve la oportunidad de llevar a varios miembros del personal a la Conferencia de PBIS (Intervenciones y Apoyos Positivos de Conducta) en Sacramento. PBIS es un enfoque escolar que se centra en enseñar y reconocer las conductas positivas para crear un ambiente de aprendizaje seguro, respetuoso y solidario para todos los estudiantes. Aprendimos muchísimo y estamos muy emocionados de compartir lo que descubrimos con el resto del equipo y comenzar a implementar nuevas estrategias en nuestra escuela.

¡Este viernes es el Día de Agricultura de Primaria! Los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de explorar animales y aprender sobre muchos aspectos diferentes de la agricultura. La Sra. Moore y la Sra. Church, junto con sus estudiantes, están planeando y organizando este maravilloso evento práctico para nuestros alumnos de Preescolar a 6.º grado. A menudo necesitamos ayuda adicional para que este día sea un éxito, así que estén atentos a más información más adelante en la semana si están interesados en ser voluntarios o asistir al evento.
