Last Friday, we held our first Student of the Month and AR awards ceremony. Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer-based program that helps teachers monitor students' reading practice and progress. After reading a book, students take short quizzes to check for comprehension. Students earn points for passing the comprehension quizzes and are awarded at our monthly assemblies. You can help your child at home by reading with them daily and encouraging them to take their quizzes at school.
It was amazing to see all of our "Responsible" students and super readers be recognized for their hard work!

News From the Classrooms:
TK
TK has had a very busy month learning all about shapes, colors, letters, and name writing and we are starting on fall this week. The kids had fun tasting all different types of apples and making their apple books. Be sure to ask them about some of the fun songs they have been learning about. We will continue our fall theme for the next few weeks, learning all about the season, weather, leaves, and pumpkins!
Kindergarten
In kindergarten, we are still working on classroom expectations, for example, raising hands if students have questions, listening for instruction, etc. We have learned to count, read, and write numbers 1 to 10. We are learning letter sounds and sight words (my, see, and the). We used chalk and playdough to write and form letters and numbers!
1st Grade
We have been working very hard in first grade! We began the year by reviewing all of our letters and their sounds and starting to read simple words. We have been writing constantly and practicing our handwriting every day. We have already improved so much! In math we are adding within 10, memorizing our doubles, and learning how to use a number line. We learned about our families and talked about how we can help them. We are looking forward to learning so much more this year!
2nd Grade
2nd grade has settled into this school year. We are moving into double-digit addition, more complicated grammar, and writing essays. The students had a great field trip to Langdon Day Farms in September and are excited for their pumpkin patch field trip this October.
3rd Grade
As the third grade moves into October, we will continue working on foundation skills in writing and grammar. Our goal is to eventually begin writing paragraphs. In math, the groups are learning multiplication facts and how these relate to division. The focus of our reading is developing better comprehension as we study habitats and the balance of nature.
4th Grade
In ELA, we have been learning about fiction book genres, exploring sentence structure, learning how to structure a paragraph, and enjoying a read-aloud of "Because of Winn-Dixie. In math, we have reviewed place value and learned to say and write numbers with up to seven digits, and we are currently exploring creative and flexible strategies for adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers in our heads. In social studies, we have been learning about various cultural traditions and customs.
5th Grade
Grade 5, Room 4, had an academic and artistic September. Please stop by and see the masterpieces of these budding artists! We are delving into decimals and reading myths while practicing public speaking by presenting. Entering Autumn, we are reading C.S. Lewis' classic, "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe". Class read-aloud is so much fun!
6th Grade
The 6th grade class just wrapped up the book Boy of the Painted Cave, and the students have started reading My Side of the Mountain. The students will also wrap up early hominins this week and start learning about Ancient Mesopotamia. They will continue learning about algebraic expressions, tectonic plates, digital citizenship, and finding context clues to decipher unknown words. It is a very exciting year.

El viernes pasado celebramos nuestra primera ceremonia de premios al Estudiante del Mes y AR. Accelerated Reader (AR) es un programa basado en computadora que ayuda a los maestros a monitorear la práctica y el progreso de lectura de los estudiantes. Después de leer un libro, los estudiantes realizan pruebas breves para comprobar su comprensión. Los estudiantes obtienen puntos por aprobar las pruebas de comprensión y se les otorga en nuestras asambleas mensuales. Puede ayudar a su hijo en casa leyéndole con él todos los días y animándolo a realizar sus pruebas en la escuela.

TK ha tenido un mes muy ocupado aprendiendo todo sobre formas, colores, letras y escritura de nombres y esta semana comenzaremos el otoño. Los niños se divirtieron probando todos los diferentes tipos de manzanas y haciendo sus libros de manzanas. Asegúrese de preguntarles sobre algunas de las canciones divertidas que han estado aprendiendo. ¡Continuaremos con nuestro tema de otoño durante las próximas semanas, aprendiendo todo sobre la temporada, el clima, las hojas y las calabazas!
Jardín de infancia
En kindergarten, todavía estamos trabajando en las expectativas del salón de clases, por ejemplo, levantar la mano si los estudiantes tienen preguntas, escuchar instrucciones, etc. Hemos aprendido a contar, leer y escribir los números del 1 al 10. Estamos aprendiendo los sonidos de las letras y las palabras reconocibles a la vista. (mi, ver, y el). ¡Usamos tiza y plastilina para escribir y formar letras y números!
1er grado
¡Hemos estado trabajando muy duro en primer grado! Comenzamos el año repasando todas nuestras letras y sus sonidos y comenzando a leer palabras simples. Hemos estado escribiendo constantemente y practicando nuestra letra todos los días. ¡Ya hemos mejorado muchísimo! En matemáticas estamos sumando hasta 10, memorizando nuestros dobles y aprendiendo a usar una recta numérica. Aprendimos sobre nuestras familias y hablamos sobre cómo podemos ayudarlas. ¡Esperamos aprender mucho más este año!
2do. grado
El segundo grado se ha instalado en este año escolar. Estamos avanzando hacia la suma de dos dígitos, una gramática más complicada y la redacción de ensayos. Los estudiantes tuvieron una gran excursión a Langdon Day Farms en septiembre y están emocionados por su excursión al huerto de calabazas este octubre.
3er grado
A medida que el tercer grado avanza hacia octubre, continuaremos trabajando en las habilidades básicas de escritura y gramática. Nuestro objetivo es eventualmente comenzar a escribir párrafos. En matemáticas, los grupos están aprendiendo las tablas de multiplicar y cómo se relacionan con la división. El objetivo de nuestra lectura es desarrollar una mejor comprensión a medida que estudiamos los hábitats y el equilibrio de la naturaleza.

En estudios sociales, hemos estado aprendiendo sobre diversas tradiciones y costumbres culturales.

El 5to grado, Sala 4, tuvo un septiembre académico y artístico. ¡Pase por aquí y vea las obras maestras de estos artistas en ciernes! Estamos profundizando en decimales y leyendo mitos mientras practicamos hablar en público mediante presentaciones. Al entrar en otoño, leemos el clásico de C.S. Lewis, "El león, la bruja y el armario". ¡Leer en voz alta en clase es muy divertido!
6to grado
La clase de sexto grado acaba de terminar el libro El niño de la cueva pintada y los estudiantes comenzaron a leer Mi lado de la montaña. Los estudiantes también terminarán los primeros homínidos esta semana y comenzarán a aprender sobre la antigua Mesopotamia. Continuarán aprendiendo sobre expresiones algebraicas, placas tectónicas, ciudadanía digital y buscando pistas de contexto para descifrar palabras desconocidas. Es un año muy emocionante.
